The third wave of COVID-19 is expected to hit India in near future with multiple variants of the virus infecting the citizens of the country. The non-availability of COVID-19 vaccines at this point in time for the population below 18 years has left them vulnerable to the dreaded virus. The Government of India recently encouraged the citizens to vaccinate children under the age of 18 with Influenza vaccines to boost their immunity. On that note, the Rotary Club of Panvel Elite organized Influenza Vaccination Drive at Likhite Hospital, Panvel on 01/07/2021 for children aged between 6 months and 18 years old. 130 children were vaccinated by taking social distancing norms into consideration including allowing the beneficiaries to choose the time slot through the smart forms generated to avoid over-crowding at the Hospital. As per health experts, symptoms of COVID-19 and Influenza resemble in many ways and those vaccinated with Influenza vaccines are believed to have their immunity boosted by about 30-40% against the Coronavirus. The response to the project was overwhelming with many beneficiaries demanding the drive to be conducted once again in near future. We plan to once again conduct the drive for the second dose of Influenza Vaccine in a month’s time. This project received a full page coverage in Rotary News Plus Magazine - July 2021 Issue (Page 8).
