According to government figures, Indian generates around 5.6 million tonnes of plastic waste annually. Most of this waste ends up in landfills. Plastic is useful for minutes but harmful for decades. That being said, On the occasion of International Plastic Bag Free Day, Rotary Club of Panvel Elite launched a video awareness campaign on 03rd July 2021 against use of single-use plastic on social media. The video talked about ill effects of using single use plastic and also suggested 5 ways how this waste can be reduced. In addition to it, pledge form links were also uploaded whereby the video viewers were encouraged to pledge against use of single-use plastic after watching the video. This video, as per pledge forms filled, is believed to positively affect at least 50 families in addition to thousands of views that the video garnered. As per project chairman – First Lady of the club – Ann Shradha Munot, Awareness is the first step to make people mindful and conscious of their actions which may impact the environment and in turn our mother nature. Environment being one of the focus areas of Rotary International, we feel glad to have taken this initiative. The project was featured in Rotary New Plus Magazine - August 2021 Issue (Page 30 and Page 31).
