One of our Happy Villages - situated about 20kms from the city of Pen is a tribal village called Zhapdi. Inside that village is a Zilla Parishad (District Council) School in a place called Pabal Wadi. We realised during our need analysis through our Rotary Community Corps that the students have to walk more than 5 kms to attend the school. Following our need analysis, we got a report made about the requirements of the number of cycles through a joint effort of our RCC, School Management and our Rotary Club. Based on the report, Rotary Club of Panvel Elite donated second hand but repaired and ready to use 28 Cycles with locks and pumps to ZP School at Pabal Wadi on 13th March 2022. This was part of one of the 8 Projects carried out that day. Cycles were donated to the students based on the list prepared by the RCC and School. Students were delighted to have received the cycles and promised to use them for the intended purpose. This is the Fifth consecutive year of the Cycle Donation project that our club has done on an ongoing basis. The continual need analysis with help of our RCC is what has allowed us to successfully execute this project year after year. One particular standout moment from the project was when the ZP School introduced us to one of the beneficiary students named Dipesh Javkar who lost both his parents to COVID-19 and is currently survived by his grandmother. Upon hearing his story, academic scores and struggle to complete his education due to financial crunch, Rtn. Rajesh Mehta (who has been leading Cycle Donation projects for last 5 years) and his wife – Rtn. Alka Mehta from the club agreed to sponsor his education till his graduation studies. This left a lasting impression on everyone present there and reminded us all what Rotary truly stands for.
