Marcus Samuelsson once said, “For many of us, water and more specifically clean water is so plentiful and readily available that we rarely, if ever, pause to consider what life would be like without it.” However, villagers living in village Dhangarmal – a tribal village located at an altitude of about 750 feet above sea level in Pen, Maharashtra have been experiencing life without water connection and especially clean water connection since 2008. To alleviate them of their problems, Rotary Club of Panvel Elite laid a connection pipeline from a source of natural water located 400 feet above the village to the water storage tank in the village which holds natural water and inaugurated it on 19th November 2017. Although it is a tribe of around 30 families yet it did not have clean water connection until the club got the opportunity to help them. The villagers did try every now and then to have themselves helped with water connection but it was untouched by many organizations it is located at a very high altitude. Not only was the water pipeline connected, but they were also handed a water purity test report which was prepared by Rtn. Suniti Dixit to make them aware about the water purity level and problems associated with it. Since the water which they get is not completely clean water, the villagers were made aware of different water purification methods that they can start applying immediately to keep themselves away from water-borne diseases. In addition, students studying at Dhangarmal were also made aware of cleanliness and hygiene. Our Chief Guest for the project – PDG Rtn. Subodh Joshi had the students take oath of keeping the village neat and clean. We hope this goes a long way in sustaining good health of the villagers.
