Unlike the advanced aid infrastructure and extremely qualified doctors that a town boasts of, several tribal and rural villages in Pen invariably awaits even the slightest of enhancements in its medical facilities. As a follow up the previous successful health check-up camp conducted in village Yeloshi last year, Rotary Club of Panvel Elite organized a free mega health check-up camp for students and adults of 11 villages at Virani School located at Virani village at Pen, Maharashtra on 19th November, 2017. Rtn. Dr. Shailashree Kelkar, Rtn. Dr. Swati Likhite, Rtn. Dr. Archana Thadani, Dr. Mamta and Dr. Prachi diligently and dexterously examined and screened general health of over 170 villagers that came from rural and tribal villages like Borgaon, Virani, Dhangarmal, Kasmal A, Kasmal B, Yeloshi, Kotbi, Ketkavne, Kolhachiwadi, Khokraiwade and Bangalwadi. Upon consultation with doctors, villagers in need of medication were offered free medicines. Some patients were also identified who are likely to require operative and surgical procedures and due advise for subsidized treatment was communicated to them. Villagers were absolutely delighted to have this camp and the camp itself received an astounding response since being a resident of a tribal village, as the aforementioned villages, up until now have never had their health examined or checked in any capacity. This, in turn, gave us inexplicable satisfaction and created a lasting impact as we were able to reach an untapped and desperately needy section of society through the medium of Rotary International.
