Rotary Club of Panvel Elite partnered with 11 other Rotary Clubs in Rotary International District 3131 in the Synergy Marathon Project held at Pune which was hosted by Rotary Club of Pune Sahyadri. The project was organized in order to spread the awareness about Breast Cancer Care Awareness and Human Milk Donation Awareness. Rotary Club’s contingent was led by President Rtn. Neeraj Kothari who is one of the fittest Rotary Club members going around along with Rtn. Ritesh Munot, Rtn. Sachin Banthia and Annete Samruddhi Munot who all ran the 7 km marathon for a great cause. The risk of breast cancer cases in India has been on rise. As per statistics and reports, Breast cancer accounts for nearly 25% of all new cancer diagnosed among Indians and the occurrence of breast cancer is higher in urban areas where 1 in 22 women are prone to breast cancer. The second objective of this Marathon project was to raise awareness about Human Milk Donation. Mothers of babies and premature babies may be unable to produce milk due to several reasons or a premature baby may be too weak to latch on to feedings. However, healthy moms with excess supply of milk could come to the rescue of these needy babies who run the risk of malnutrition and other fatal diseases. This project helped raise the awareness about donating this excess milk which could be stored in required conditions which otherwise would have gone waste.
