Did you know that platelet donation by one person can save upto 3 lives? In a first of it's kind in Rotary International District 3131, Rotary Club of Panvel Elite in a synergy project with Rotaract Club of Panvel Elite, Rotary Club of Kharghar Midtown, Rotaract Club of Kharghar Midtown and Robin Hood Army conducted Platelets and Blood Donation Camp at Tata Memorial Hospital, Kharghar on 01st December, 2019. During platelet donation, a small portion of your blood (about 120 ml at a time), is drawn from your arm and passed through a sophisticated cell-separating machine. The machine collects the platelets and safely returns the remaining blood components, along with some saline back to your body.Platelets Donation can be the difference between LIFE & DEATH. Since platelet donation is done on requirement basis and cannot stored for a long time, a database of willing platelet donors was created as donors from Panvel, Kharghar and surrounding areas attended the project and gave their blood sample. The hospital had an immediate requirement of platelet of a person having A+ve blood group and the same was generously provided by Rtr. Dhruv Jain of Rotaract Club of Panvel Elite. Medical treatments like Chemotherapy used for treating cancer can decrease a person’s platelet count. Replenishing blood lost from chemotherapy, requires blood from healthy donors. At Rotary Club of Panvel Elite and Rotaract Club of Panvel Elite, we feel inspired to have gotten this opportunity to lead this synergy project.
